Movies On Demand on Cable Update – November 2015

Emotions run high in November 2015, with a range of movie hits and new release indies making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable.

Bill Hader makes two very different appearances in November films. A young girl’s emotions become characters in the gorgeously animated and inventive smash hit, Inside Out, voiced by Amy Poehler (playing Joy), Hader (playing Fear) and other stars playing her range of emotions. The irrepressible stand-up comic Amy Schumer wrote and stars in her big-screen debut, Trainwreck, the Judd Apatow-directed cynical twist on the romantic comedy genre. She plays opposite Hader along with many great stars and celebrity cameos, including Tilda Swinton, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, LeBron James, Marv Albert, Chris Evert, Matthew Broderick, Daniel Radcliffe and Marisa Tomei.

As promised, he’s back! Arnold Schwarzenegger received good reviews for his return in Terminator Genisys, the fifth installment in the franchise. Loosely based on the 1983 original, Vacation is the latest in the famed National Lampoon series, starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate as parents trying to navigate a parade of comical misadventures during their family’s cross-country vacation. The parents in the original film, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, also appear.

Despite their hostilities towards one another, two agents team up to stop an international criminal from creating global catastrophe in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. starring Army Hammer and Henry Canvill. In Ricki and the Flash, Meryl Streep stars with her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer, as an aging rock-and-roller who tries to revive life with her family, which she had neglected for years in her quest for music fame.

Indie premieres on MOD for November 2015* (just a selection):

Viewers will find a wide variety of indie premieres in November from some well-known filmmakers and stars, many premiering the same day as their theatrical release.

Festival buzz:

Already getting 2016 Awards Season buzz and positive reviews, The End of the Tour, starring Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg, tells the true story of a five day interview by a young Rolling Stone journalist of the acclaimed, but troubled novelist David Foster Wallace. Also, getting high marks from critics and at film festivals is Tangerine, notable partly for being filmed on an iPhone, but more importantly for its raucous, comedic and honest depiction of young transgender women on the streets of L.A. Another title getting positive notices is the Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha)-directed screwball comedy Mistress America, with Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha) and Lola Kirke (Gone Girl) as soon-to-be stepsisters playing the NYC social scene.

Two thrillers headline the indies on MOD slate:

Heist is a thriller about a former card dealer who robs a casino to pay for his daughter’s medical care, with Robert DeNiro as the Casino owner. Criminal Activities is an action crime/thriller that opens on MOD same day as theaters, starring John Travolta and Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) in a story of four friends whose bad investment gets them in trouble with the mob.

Other indies to notice:

We Are Your Friends stars Zac Efron as a struggling DJ in Hollywood’s electronic music scene and the complicated love triangle that forces him to balance his loyalties and his ambition.
