Movies On Demand on Cable Update – May 2016

May shines with Movies On Demand, featuring a playful month of hit titles, award-winners and critical darlings making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable.

HUGE HITS:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the space saga, which broke box office records of all kinds. Favorite characters and droids return, and new stars are born. It is definitely worth seeing again! Ryan Reynolds is the title character in Deadpool, from the studio that produced the whole X-Men franchise. This fourth-wall-breaking masterpiece is about MARVEL Comics’ sexiest anti-hero, a Special Forces operative with healing powers and a foul mouth.

TRUE STORIES:

Joy is an unusual subject for a film. Jennifer Lawrence stars as the woman who invents the Miracle Mop and builds a four generation business dynasty, in David O. Russell‘s (Silver Linings Playbook) wild story. Race is based on the true story of 1936 Olympic legend Jesse Owens’ (Stephan James) quest for gold as he faced off against the horrors of pre-WWII Germany as well as racial prejudice in America.

TWO COMEDIES ENLIVEN THE MONTH:

The romantic comedy How to be Single stars Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie and Leslie Mann navigating the ever-evolving world of being a single young woman in New York City. Dirty Grandpa is an outrageous raunchy comedy starring Robert DeNiro as Zac Efron’s wild and uninhibited grandfather.

TWO HORROR FLICKS MAKE US SHUDDER:

In The Boy, Greta (Lauren Cohan) faces her worst nightmare after she takes a new nanny job and is spooked by a life-sized doll that may be inhabited by the dead son’s ghost. Sundance Film Festival winner The Witch is a terrifying horror film about a 17th Century Puritan family unraveled by witchcraft, black magic and possession.
