Movies On Demand on Cable Update – March 2017

March 2017 is anchored by three box office hit new release kids films making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable’s VOD platform in March.  Plus acclaimed award winners and high-profile nominees round out the month.

HIT FILMS FOR KIDS

Sing features an eternally optimistic koala who puts on a singing competition to save his failing theater, and animals across the city gather to step into the spotlight and chase their dreams.  Based in the Harry Potter world, decades before the ‘Boy Who Lived,’ comes Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, where Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) magical beasts are let loose in 1926 New York, and the community is threatened by exposure to No-Majs bent on eradicating them. The animated hit Moana welcomes Disney’s newest princess, a teen-age pacific Island girl on a gorgeous quest across the ocean, guided by the demi-god Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson).

ACCLAIMED TITLES

Fresh off its recent win, Fences is adapted from August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-and Tony Award-winning 1987 Broadway play. The film, which received 93% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, is directed by and stars Denzel Washington as a former baseball player in 1950s Pittsburgh who fights for those he loves in a world that threatens to push him down. The just-honored Viola Davis plays his loyal wife in a tour-de-force performance.

Natalie Portman stars in the powerfully stirring drama, Jackie, as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, whose faith and strength see her through the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  In Passengers, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt star in a high-stakes adventure about two passengers on board a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet.
