Movies On Demand on Cable Update – March 2015

From beginning to end, March 2015 is filled with critically-acclaimed, award-winning and audience-pleasing films from the major studios, making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable. From futuristic epic adventures, to life-affirming musicals, to heartbreaking true stories, March is jam-packed.

Adventure, Fantasy & Sci-Fi:
Box office juggernaut, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, is the cornerstone of the month, with Jennifer Lawrence returning as the feisty Katniss Everdeen. Another huge hit is The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which ends director Peter Jackson’s second Middle-earth trilogy in epic cinematic style. With earth no longer sustainable, Matthew McConaughey leads a team of Interstellar explorers out of our galaxy to find a new home for mankind, a film that just won the award for Best Visual Effects.

Toe-Tappers:
Meryl Streep plays the fabled witch in Into the Woods, the film version of Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway fairy tale mashup from director Rob Marshall (Chicago), with Johnny Depp (who else?) as Little Red Riding Hood’s wolf. But there’s another musical stage to screen transfer on the agenda this month. Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) is certain that the sun will come out tomorrow as the title character in Annie, an updated version of the classic musical, with Jamie Foxx playing her tycoon savior.

Ripped From the Headlines:
Unbroken is Angelina Jolie’s directorial take on the almost impossibly true story of World War II hero and Olympian Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) about bravery, resilience and an indomitable human spirit. The Imitation Game, which just won Best Adapted Screenplay, is based on the true story of another WWII hero, Alan Turing, who cracked the supposedly unbreakable German “Enigma” code and helped to shorten the war. In the critically-acclaimed Foxcatcher, Steve Carell plays against type in the true story of the wealthy and eccentric John du Pont, and his obsession with building a wrestling empire. With Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo and Vanessa Redgrave.
