A variety of indie films come to MOD this July, bringing award-winning options and a wide range of titles from family and comedy to drama, action and thrillers. Highlights include:

With 90% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and awards from both the Austin and Toronto Film Festivals, Green Room is a thriller starring Patrick Stewart and Anton Yelchin, in which an unsuspecting rock band must escape a diabolical club owner after they witness a murder.

Set in 1980’s Dublin, Sing Street tells the story of a young boy (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) aiming to win the heart of a beautiful girl in his class by forming a band and putting his all into writing lyrics and shooting videos. A Best Animated Feature nominee, Boy and the World is a visually breathtaking Brazilian film where a boy (Vinicius Garcia) from a remote village embarks on an adventure from his rural home to the country’s capital to reunite his family.

Directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused), Everybody Wants Some!! is a nostalgia-filled comedy about members of a college baseball team from Texas who navigate their way between girls, parties and baseball in the summer of 1980. It stars Will Brittain and Zoey Deutch.

In Demolition, a troubled man (Jake Gyllenhaal) forms an unlikely connection with a struggling single mother (Naomi Watts), while rebuilding his life after the loss of a loved one. Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen co-star in I Saw the Light, chronicling the explosive rise to fame of Hank Williams and its ultimately tragic effect on the legendary country western singer’s life.

Also notable, from writer, director and producer Angelina Jolie, By The Sea follows a writer (Brad Pitt) and his wife (Jolie) as they come to terms with issues in their marriage while vacationing in 1970’s France.
