Movies On Demand on Cable Update – January 2017

The New Year 2017 is welcomed by Movies On Demand (MOD), with star-studded comedies, dramas, action and thrillers; plus indies available the same day as theatrical, all making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable in January. Highlights of the month:

Deepwater Horizon is a powerful movie inspired by the true story of the 2010 rig explosion and largest oil spill in US history. Mark Wahlberg leads the all-star cast (with Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson) as he is trapped on the burning rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Emily Blunt stars in the highly-anticipated The Girl on the Train, based on the bestselling thriller. Blunt plays a recent divorcee who sees something shocking from the window of her commuter train and becomes entangled in a mystery surrounding the lives of the people she sees.

To avoid trouble on All Hallows Eve, Madea and her posse stay home to keep a watchful eye on Brian’s teenage daughter In Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween, but ghosts, zombies, poltergeists and all hell-arity ensues.

Ben Affleck stars as a “mild-mannered” small-town CPA in The Accountant, but the math savant also works freelance as a forensic accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. In Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, based on a best-selling novel, Tom Cruise stars as the titular character. When an army major is the target of a government conspiracy, Jack Reacher risks everything to take down the unstoppable force protecting its secrets.

Receiving 93% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Newtown follows the aftermath of the worst school shooting in history, as the traumatized community of Newtown, Connecticut finds a new sense of purpose in this intimate documentary of resilience as told by those whose lives were changed forever.

In Denial, Deborah E. Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) battles for historical truth when renowned Holocaust denier David Irving (Timothy Spall) sues her for libel. Also starring Tom Wilkinson. Called “riveting” on Rotten Tomatoes where it received 81% positive reviews.

Boasting several film festival awards, and high marks from critics, Christine is based on the shocking true story of a newswoman caught in the midst of a personal and professional life crisis. Between unrequited love, frustration at work, and a tumultuous home; she spirals down.
