Movie fans can thrill to a great selection of some of the most critically-acclaimed recent films making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable’s VOD platform in February. Many of these are award winners and contenders. The following MOD premieres all garnered between 87 and 97% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, representing reviews from hundreds of critics.

Boasting 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and coming to MOD before DVD, Moonlight is a masterful and timeless story of human connection and self-discovery. It chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world.

With a stunning 97% positive reviews, comes Manchester By the Sea, starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams and an all-star cast in this acclaimed and poignant film about a janitor whose life is transformed after he becomes the guardian of his 16-year-old nephew.

Next, with 94% positive is Arrival. Amy Adams (American Hustle) plays an expert linguist who is sent in to communicate with aliens in spacecraft that land across the globe.

Also at 94% is The Edge of Seventeen, a hilarious coming-of-age comedy about two high school best friends turned enemies after one finds out the other has been secretly dating her older brother.

Coming in at 90% positive is Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange, the huge hit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) as a former neurosurgeon who is drawn into the world of sorcery.

The much talked about film Loving also garners 90%. Based on a landmark Supreme Court case, an interracial couple in 1960s Virginia fights the law that prohibits their marriage.

Finally, Hacksaw Ridge garnered 87% positive reviews. It is the true story of army medic and conscientious objector Desmond Doss who, during WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun.

KIDS

Kids love of these effervescent Trolls has made this film a box office winner. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake voice DreamWorks’ Trolls, the story of two mismatched friends who embark on a musical adventure filled with heart, hilarity and pure happy.
