Movies On Demand on Cable Update – April 2017

April 2017 is blossoming with award-winning, popular and critically acclaimed recent new releases making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable’s VOD platform.

From Lucasfilm comes a stand-alone story that is a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, the epic adventure Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes led by a heroine warrior (Felicity Jones), band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.

In La La Land, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star as an actress and a musician chasing their dreams in this music-filled masterpiece that is a gorgeous, if bittersweet, love letter to LA. It blazed through the awards circuit, capturing numerous statues, including Best Picture at the Golden Globe Awards®.

Another big hit at the box office and garnering 92% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Hidden Figures is the incredible untold true story of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), brilliant African-American women working at NASA. They served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

Office Christmas Party is a raucous holiday movie that stars Jennifer Aniston as a CEO trying to close the branch that her brother (T.J. Miller) runs. A cast of hilarious comedy stars, including Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live) throw a wild, decadent bash to impress a client.

The powerful film Lion is based on an incredible true story.  A five year-old boy from a poor town in India falls asleep on an empty train and winds up thousands of miles away in Calcutta. Cunning and adorable, he learns to survive in the streets, then is adopted by a middle-class couple in Australia. Only as an adult and with the availability of Google Earth does he set out to find his long-lost family.  It achieved 92% positive audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.  In the chilling psychological thriller Split, Kevin (James McAvoy) has 23 very different personalities within him. He abducts three teenage girls and threatens them with another, more evil persona. In Split With Bonus Content, viewers can check out the alternate ending the writer/director M. Night Shyamalan considered.
